ABOUT ME!!!

Kia ora. Hello. Dia dhuit.
My name is Max (he/him)
I'm a British-Irish-New Zealand director, writer and movement director.
I've trained with leading practitioners in theatre, movement and dance from the UK, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Croatia, Japan and Germany.
I've made work with new writers, composers, designers, and for young people. As well as work that combines spoken English and BSL.
I freelance as both a visiting director and tutor in acting and movement at UK drama schools LAMDA and Mountview, where I've created new plays, devised projects and reimagined contemporary and classic texts.
The work I make often involves questions around LOVE, TIME, and our relationship to PLACE.
I'm drawn to work made by and collaborating with people whose stories aren't always centred in western society
I'm still finding the language and the frameworks for doing that well but I've recently encountered Dr d'bi.young anitafrika's Anitafrika Method, and it's reshaping how I think about being curious and kind, in both the work I make and the life I live.
I'm excited by work that not only has something to say... but that reconnects us to the world around us.
Work that is diverse and beautiful and quiet and sad and cheeky and alive.
I make work that wants us to feel deeply about the world.
My film work spans short films, feature scripts in development and a feature length documentary...
...as well as scenes for actors' showreels.
A friend said to me recently:
"You haven't met all the people in your life who you're going to love yet."
So let's collaborate!
Much love, Max x
